MASTITIS MELODIES

You probably don’t have their album in your collection, but you may remember the Waikato Dairy Lab Singers from 1976, especially if you were farming at the time.

The album was an initiative by the Ruakura Research Centre to educate farmers on the basics of Mastitis control in dairy cattle.

All songs were adapted from popular songs or traditional ditties. For example ‘Treat Your Teats’ was sung to the tine of ‘Jingle Bells’ . Can you guess what ‘Treat All Your Udders With A Dry Cow Tube’ was sung to?

The songs became popular at Ruakura Field Days and even played on the BBC.

Can you remember hearing these? Were you farming in the 70s. We’d love to hear your stories.
