MARIA DALLAS AT THE STARLIGHT

Remember the Starlight Ballroom in Anglesea St? It was already famous in Hamilton when Morrinsville-born, Kiwi pop-star Maria Dallas performed there in 1969.

Maria had a top 10 hit with the song “Tumbling Down” in 1966 and was living in Australia when this photo was taken.

Every big band or singer that came through Hamilton played at the Starlight, and everyone else went there to dance. The fact it only sold soft drinks didn’t seem to be a problem.
